Signature Project Peni Candra Rini

Peni Candra Rini is a Javanese singer, composer and lecturer at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts. The Kronos Quartet has described her as “one of the greatest singers in the world”. She is a master of traditional forms and is considered one of Indonesia’s boldest young composers.
In 2025, she will be performing for the first time at The Festival (July 2 – 6, 2025) as a Signature Artist of the Monheim Triennale with a transdisciplinary project that will premiere in Monheim. “I was born a singer,” she says.
Her signature project is called „Rara – Allegories of the Southern Sea“ will be a theatrical production including video and live shadow theater about the mythology of East Java, Indonesia.
