The installations and performances were complemented by sonic interactions and interventions. In addition to events by some of the exhibiting artists as well as the artist in residence Achim Tang and the curator Frank Schulte, projects by students of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, the Robert Schumann University Düsseldorf and the Bern University of the Arts could be experienced.

As with the previous events of the first Monheim Triennale, the sound art exhibition The Sound also included intensive collaboration with various institutions in the city: for example, students from the Peter Ustinov Gesamtschule designed a sound art space in the Kunstwerkstatt Turmstrasse, and the municipal music school offered a workshop including a performance in connection with the artwork “Powerless Flight” by John Grzinich. In addition, there was a project week with Geert-Jan Hobijn at Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium and open studio visits with Rie Nakajima, hans w. koch and Pierre Berthet.
