Interview The Dorf
Introducing Rojin Sharafi
Q: Can you briefly tell us who you are, where you come from and what you do?
A: I was born and raised in Teheran and have been living in Vienna since 2012. I am working in the field of experimental electronic music, both as a solo artist and with a band project, and also work on film, dance and commissions for compositions.
Q: How would you describe your musical style and what are your pieces of music about?
A: In my pieces and albums I work with different musical and non-musical themes and emotions. Lately, I’ve been particularly interested in psychoanalytical concepts and ideas of community in music.
Q: What inspires you about music?
A: The abstract, the unpredictable and the predictable inspire me the most in music.
Q: What are you looking forward to at the Monheim Triennale?
A: I’m looking forward to unpredictable moments while making music, being together with other musicians and the conversations at the Monheim Triennale.
Q: Have you already had the chance to meet any of the signature artists? Who are you particularly looking forward to?
A: I know the works of many Signature Artists and I am looking forward to meeting them in person, especially Ganavya Doraiswamy, Shahzad Ismaily, Anushka Chkheidze and Muqata’a.
Q: What is your current favourite track?
A: My current favourite track is “Ambassel to Brussel, pt. 1” by Ukandanz.
