Swedish vocal artist, improviser, composer and citizen of the world Sofia Jernberg is one of 16 artists invited to the upcoming Monheim Triennale (22-26 June 2022) to bring a "signature" project to the Rhine. "To call her a 'singer' is a grossly negligent abbreviation. Sofia Jernberg, through her entire existence, creates a possibility space for what the human voice can be. Since her childhood in Ethiopia and Vietnam, she has been in search of the unheard," says Arno Raffeiner in the Monheim Papers.
"Hymns and Laments" is a work commissioned by Monheim Triennale and is based on traditional songs from Korea, Ethiopia, Sweden and Norway. "Lush Life" by Billy Strayhorn, "Come Sunday" by Duke Ellington and music by Jean-Philippe Rameau.
